| EMPLOYMENT - LOOKING FOR EMPLOYMENT |
KIWI LOOKING FOR WORK:
I am a Kiwi from Christchurch and have just finished my MA (geog) at Canterbury University on disasters and development in Samoa. I am moving to LA in mid October to be with my girlfriend who is an American studying at the University of Southern California (USC). I have a 1 year work visa which allows me to work from mid Nov08-mid Nov 09 and will be looking for work, ideally in the USC area (or within busing distance). I have a background in development studies/geography/social research and would ideally love a research/teaching job. Having said that - I am really interested in any work that is available, and coming from little Chch the prospect of finding a job in LA is rather terrifying!! I have worked as a social policy analyst for government in Wellington and have worked as a teaching fellow at university for the past 3 years. I have also worked as a research assistant for professors and have retail/hospitality experience. If anyone knows of any jobs available that would be fantastic - my e-mail is bethewatson@hotmail.com. I am more than happy to e-mail my C.V and references. Also, if anyone knows of accommodation available in the USC area in mid October that would be fantastic. Beth Watson

NORTH AMERICAN TOURISM TO NZ
Kia ora tatou; nau mai haere mai … greetings and welcome.
By the time you see this you will be among the first in the world to see a new era of Tourism New Zealand’s 100% Pure New Zealand campaign. It has been a year in the making and has been a major project for Tourism New Zealand, and we’re delighted with the result, and we hope you will be too.
When Tourism New Zealand launched it's100% Pure New Zealand campaign in 1999, it was ground breaking. We were among the first to have a single country brand, and it has served New Zealand well.
New Zealand now welcomes over 900,000 more visitors than it did when the 100% Pure New Zealand campaign launched in 1999. And North America remains New Zealand’s 3rd largest market, producing over 270,000 visitors each year. Today, tourism is New Zealand’s biggest foreign exchange earner and largest employer.
New Zealand is the youngest country on earth the last habitable landmass in the world to be settled by humankind. Once you know that, so much of what New Zealand has to offer falls into place. All that youth and vibrancy, the openness of our people, is something we wanted to distil into our new campaign.
So, here it is … our new creative campaign that will launch in California around the Emmy’s Awards on Sept 17. You will also notice we have worked closely with Weta Studios, the digital geniuses behind the Lord of the Rings visuals, to bring our story to life. Attached is a web link to our new campaign creative.

| EDUCATION |
TV chef, author and singer Peta Mathias has launched a cooking school in the south of France.
Mathias, who ran her own restaurant in Paris for more than 10 years, has established the Fête Accomplie Cooking School in a 17th century country house near the medieval market town of Uzès. Her first two courses were full and places are filling fast for the third, to be run in September. In 2007 to tie in with the Rugby World Cup in France and the America's Cup in Spain she will run at least six schools.
Mathias, who calls herself a ñgastro-nomadî, has written eight gastronomic travel books about North Africa, France, New Zealand, Ireland and Vietnam and presented prime-time TV shows Taste New Zealand and Taste Takes Off for the past 10 years.
ñFor the Fête Accomplie Cooking School, I comb the region for its best, most evocative recipes reflecting tradition, respect for the land and honest, seasonal produce. Naturally, I throw in lots of rosé and pernod to prevent dehydration too!î
Each week-long Fête Accomplie course has a maximum of 10 students and is run at Mas Bonnafoux, a 400-year-old farmhouse set on a two-hectare site. Owned by sculptors and artists, Celia and David Horsman, the luxury accommodation includes a wide colonnaded terrace and large swimming pool.
The course costs 2,500 Euros, which includes all tuition, six nights' luxury accommodation, food, wine, transport, excursions and several restaurant meals. For more information, visit www.petamathias.com

School On Wheels is a nonprofit organization which provides educational assistance to homeless children who live in shelters, motels, cars and on the street. It receives no State or Federal money, but is able to survive through the tax deductible donations of people or organizations.
The organization was founded in 1993 by Agnes Stevens, a retired teacher. She had noticed homeless children in Santa Monica who were not enrolled in school and began teaching them in a park, while encouraging them to keep up with their grades and school activities.
Today, hundreds of volunteers from all walks of life tutor the children: In 2004, more than 300 tutors donated about 30.000 hours. SOW distributed 5.000 backpacks with school supplies and helped hundreds of families enroll their children in school. SOW works in five major regions in Southern California, including LA, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties and has chapters in Indiana and Massachusetts.
