ANZAC Picnic
Elysian Park
Saturday April 26, 2003

The KiwisinLA ANZAC picnic was a family affair. Local Kiwis brought their offspring of all ages to experience a little Kiwi tradition. There were kids fresh off the boat, who enjoyed being surrounded by familiar accents, to grown adults, who hardly had any experience of the ways of their mothers' homeland.

The Cote men, father Ray and son Mark, were victors in the three legged race. Although, it was questioned whether spending the morning practicing for the event was in the true spirit of the competition.

Errol Lawrence, who originally hailed from South Africa, demonstrated a perfect mix of size, pace and handling ability as he blitzed all comers in the egg and spoon race. The Springboks, could surely use a man of his talents, but in a clear admission of where he believes the future lies, Errol's two month year old son, Sam was proudly dressed an All Blacks hat.

All attendees agreed that the Montecillo picnic area was one of Los Angeles' hidden gems. To enquire about reserving the space, contact the Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation at (213) 485-5054.
